By concealing the fate and whereabouts of thousands of political dissidents who were forcibly disappeared and secretly executed in prison 30 years ago, Iranian authorities are continuing to commit crimes against humanity, said Amnesty International in a damning report published today.
The present report is submitted pursuant to Human Rights Council resolution 37/30 which renewed the mandate of the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran. The resolution requests that the Special Rapporteur submit a report on the implementation of the mandate to the General Assembly at its seventy-third session and to the Human Rights Council at its fortieth session. The resolution also calls upon the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran to cooperate fully with the mandate holder, to permit access to visit the country, and to provide all information necessary to enable the fulfilment of the mandate.
My name is Mitra Aliabouzar. I was a member of the Islamic Student Association at Tehran Polytechnic (AUT) and Sharif University of Technology (SUT). I was arrested three times after the disputed presidential election in 2009. I left Iran in 2013 and joined the George Washington University (GWU) for a Ph.D. program. I received my doctoral degree in mechanical engineering in 2018 and right now I am a postdoc fellow at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor (UMICH).
